Men’s Club

History and Affiliations

The Men’s club of Rodeph Sholom had its rebirth in 1995 after a two year dormancy under the leadership of Ed Matisoff and a core group of five dedicated members. Ed led the club as its President for three years before he and his family were relocated to Plano, TX by his employer. The club continued to thrive and grow under the leadership of former Co-Presidents, Harvey Hevenstone and Sy Wiesenfeld, and Allan Warmflash and Michael Stone. Our current paid-up membership includes 125 men plus new members who receive their first year membership free. For the past two years the club has been functioning as a steering committee without benefit of a President. A search for a President or Co-Presidents is a continuing mission. Dues are $30 per member per fiscal year.

Our brotherhood is a member of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs (FJMC) an international organization offering professional support and vital resources to its member clubs. We fall under the CT Valley Region of the FJMC with nine member clubs comprising the region. The regional club conducts bi-monthly meetings hosted by each of the participating synagogues in turn. On Nov. 9, 2003 the CT Valley Region installed officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer) as well as committee chairmen for special events. The FJMC conducts a full and comprehensive website at the following URL – www.fjmc.org. Bulletins like “Torchlight” and “The Advantage” are published periodically throughout the year offering advice on how to increase membership, promote new programs and also listing current news within the organization. Our affiliation with the FJMC is crucial to our club’s success and survival.
